Drumming
Re: Drumming
I still have a MAD drumming tube--2 in fact. I dont see these for sale anymore and bought mine like 7 years ago. Going to have to take one out again this upcoming Spring.

[quote="GLS"]Del, how far away were the roosting birds when you heard them? Gil[/quote
First bird was at least 75 not sure how far. 75 to edge of a field and he was back in woods. Second bird was about 50. Hunting partner was with me both days. The second bird was drumming in pitch in black dark 30 minutes before light even broke. My partner wanted to move but I told him no, I heard the bird. Ended up gobbling twice then pitching down and dying.

Re: Drumming
I went years and had only heard it once, at very close range. Got hearing aids before last season and heard one drumming well before I saw him. He was by a downed tree. I paced it off later and heard him some 90 yards away, and it was very loud even at that.
I can't wait to hear that sound again.

Re: Drumming
I remember the first time I heard drumming, I thought I was hearing things, it was an awesome experience and it still is. We heard several birds last year drumming. One on the roost! It still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Re: Drumming
I used to be able to hear it quite a bit farther than I do these days. My ears ain't what they used to be, or anything else for that matter. I can still hear it, but the birds have to be close. 20 yards or so, before I can hear it well.

Re: Drumming
The bird I killed yesterday, I don't believe ever gobbled.
I heard the spit, and got ready. Moments later, he came into the field.
Sometimes I can hear the drum, sometimes I can't. Harrison can pick right up on it.
I can always hear the spit.
