Heavy Hunted Public Land
Heavy Hunted Public Land
Heres a Tip. I'm not kidding.
IF you can roost a Gobbler (watch him fly up) Just go in there around 2AM and scare him off the roost. Go home and sleep in. Get up and have breakfeast. Go back around 930Am to his tree and set up and call. He will be heading there around mid morning to find out where his hens are.
If a gobbler comes in to your call make sure he is the same one you scared off at 2AM. If he is not let him go and keep waiting. You don't want to educate the bird you scared off.
Disclaimer: gobblerD is not a very good turkey hunter and sometimes his tips can cause long lonely seasons with no results. If you try this tip, you do so at your own risk.

Re: Heavy Hunted Public Land
Don't even go there on my recommendation on any of your advice. After "Jakes don't gobble in Florida", I'm taking your advice with a grain of salt. LOL.

Forgive my ignorance on this turkey hunting stuff but i have a question. While your there at 2 a.m. why not just go ahead and shoot him off the limb, then around 9:30 a.m. go to the waffle house?

I don't know about your rules in Fl., but in Wi., if you shoot a gobbler off the roost, you must wait 24 hrs. before entering a waffle house. It's only right..Mike
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Kinda suprised that you didn't have a recommendation from guesswho on there because without it the others mean nothing. How do I set up my blind at 2 am isn't it too dark out?

Hey man I live in Canada. I have a hard time just getting a good scope!! If I tried to get night vision goggles I might just as well try to find a waffle house.

Well, i must say i am devastated that my long national secret is over!! Turkey numbers should begin to dwindle now!!Gobbler wrote:Heres a Tip. I'm not kidding.

Re: Heavy Hunted Public Land
I prefer not to use a blind at that time of night, but just slip a decoy on my head and ease in to gun range. They think it's a hen and let you get real close as long as you don't turn on the light till you're ready to shoot.timbrhuntr wrote:Kinda suprised that you didn't have a recommendation from guesswho on there because without it the others mean nothing. While your at it, just spot the deer over your feeder with the same floodlamp you are looking at the turkey with. Just don't forget your deer rifle.guesswho wrote:Forgive my ignorance on this turkey hunting stuff but i have a question. Or..If it is a gobbler with a mega length beard, you can cut it off so it looks like a jake. That's what we're hunting for....

Hell if he had a pair of Night Vision goggles he would be more advanced than the Royal Canadian Armytimbrhuntr wrote:Hey man I live in Canada. I have a hard time just getting a good scope!! If I tried to get night vision goggles I might just as well try to find a waffle house.

This tactic works perfect on longbeards but you cannot go against the GN ethic rule. I remember when you ask me to join this great site that you clearly stated that no longbeards would be hurt during the 2012 season. Now you're trying to renig on everything you had put in the GN bylaws. If you are going to live up to being a JAKE SLAYER then you gotta play by the rules.
When I see you in Nashville you best be wearing the GN Jakeslayer T-Shirt or you could be banned from your own website.
