Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
The property I hunt has had its share of ups and downs this year. First day out gobblers sounding off like crazy which finally ended up with a dead gobbler to finish off the day my first spring gobbler ever. The next two times out we heard nothing not even a yelp. We then found out the neighbor had wiped out 6 gobblers hunting over bait. We thought all hope was lost. We went up last Saturday morning and heard at least 4 gobblers and where able to work 2 of them for good amount of time but couldn't get them to move more than 10 yards or so. I went this morning and worked majority of the property and heard nothing.
First day out weather was cool in the morning but warmed up quick 4/18
Second day out rainy and cooler the full day 4/25
Third day no rain but cooler the full day 4/28
Forth day chilly in the morning but warmed up 5/2
Today chilly in the morning and warmed up but I was only able to hunt until around 9:00 a.m. 5/4
Any thoughts if the weather could be keeping the birds quiet?
Also any tips on getting birds that are hung up to come in, they will keep gobbling they just one break and come in?
Any thought and or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Re: Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
Saturday morn heard 5 gobble their head off. Sunday morn nothing, notta. This morn, at least 6.
Same area, all three days basically same weather.
I stopped trying to figure out why some morns they talk, and some they don't years ago. Only they know.
You just have to keep going, and take advantage of the vocal days best you can!!!

And they're still out there even if they're silent. Saturday we heard a few gobblers going off, followed by shots. Another one sounded off twice and went silent. We relocated in a known good spot and I called in a bearded gobbler who came in silently around 11am. They're out there walking around all day.

Re: Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
As this is my first year spring gobbler hunting I thought I was going crazy. Good to hear it sounds normal. When we don't hear anything we try to setup and cold call on the logging roads and decking areas for 15-20 minutes. I appreciate all you guys help.
Any other ideas of where to set up when all is quiet in the land of the toms?
Thanks,
Hookinembig

And you might wanna give em more than 15 minutes per setup.Stinky J Picklestein wrote:Where you've seen them previously.hookinembig wrote:...

when toms go silent I usually take this opportunity to prospect and hope to fire one up. also, some days they might not make a peep on the roost. then gobble their guts out at mid day.

Re: Birds quiet one day then gobbling the next
Thanks for the advice guys. We are heading out hopefully Friday and Satuday so we will see what goes down. I will definitely try sitting in the same set up for longer periods of time. Our season here just opened up full day instead of ending at 12 on Monday so we can try some in the afternoons as well. I appreciate the tips hopefully it will result in a floppin tom.
