Need Setup Advise ASAP for this afternoon

Post by gophert »

Me and Leah planning on hunting this afternoon. Birds are roosting in both green spots. Red of course is the property line. The yellow dots are where we have killed birds in the past with the yellow dot in the upper right of the property being where we killed our double. Here's the kicker...once the birds are in the field there is No Chance of moving on them. Where would u set up for an afternoon hunt? and Why?

I would setup a little ways in the wood line towards the bottom green dot. The shot will probably be later in the evening as the hens leave to go roost and the tom is dragging up the rear.

I have had success on a dozen or so field birds applying this type setup.

I think I would go to the lowest yellow dot for this reason, it looks like there is a lot of open fields across the property line at the upper yellow dot. Unless there is a reason for the birds to be on your side of the line, they could just as easily be in the open field on the other side of the line.

Either way, good luck to both of you.

I would make an evening set up on the top yellow dot to intercept them on the way to roost,
and in the morning I would set up near the middle yellow dot, on that little point ,just above and to the left from the dot in the cover thats there,
It seems like most of the field birds I hunt hang tight to those outside corners.

Well, we got out there the quickest that we could.....AND....all 5 strutters were already in the field so moving on them was impossible. Leah is becoming a great hunter. I asked her where she would go, before telling about everyone's response. She said to go sit at the edge of the field near the roosting spot on the bottom.

And....here they are standing right beside the tree we wanted to sit next to. Looks like we may have to get there around 2:00 and wait them out next time.
