Leah lays the hammer down on her first of 2014 - VIDEO

Well, Leah got sweet redemption this afternoon. We went to a farm we have hunted before, just not too often. We've seen some hens over the years, but never have got on a gobbler. For some reason, I am seeing a lot of gobblers all alone, which makes for some real good fun. We sat down by the tree and this ol boy gobbled not 5 minutes later to our direct left in the timber. We were sitting on an old road that runs along the back fence of this property. Let me preface this by saying I totally looked like a amateur camera man today. I FORGOT TO TURN ON THE BOOM MIC. All you can hear is what's coming through Leah's wireless mic on her. He came in and was making his way to the decoys. I think this may have been the first time I've ever hear the "fith dooom" of one drumming. He really put on a show. The video is kinda long, so feel free to scan through as you get closer to the end. If you turn your vol up you can hear the gobbles. Hope you enjoy!

You are so right. I looked like a complete camera rookie. I'm gonna be honest, I was shook up. After what happen last week, I just kept saying, not again. Bird coming from behind and the left and she couldn't move her gun. It was like a re-occuring nightmare. I was trying to watch him and keep the camera on him. EPIC FAIL!

She hit him right where the neck and body join, but that's where she said she aimed so I can't fault her for that. Those 9's messed that boy up pretty bad.

Congratulations to you and her. Gotta love those happy kid pictures. Not being father this is one of the things I think i miss with hunting. Great job on getting her out, I really believe we need more girls involved in hunting and the outdoors. Chief

Tim, I read somewhere (maybe here) where a man ground up his turkey to make chili and used a high-powered magnet he took out of a dead hard drive. He put the magnet in a ziploc and ran it through the ground meat and it picked out the HTL. TSS is magnetic as well. If the bird is too shot up for usual cooking, you might consider the magnet technique and grind it up. Gil

I thought she had completely body shot it. However, I found only 1 pellet in the breast and only about 3 holes where others passed through. She said she was aiming at the red part and it looks like she hit it pretty close. He had major trauma at the base of the neck, just above the breast.
