Bearded Hen In Virginia

Post by GOLD HUNTER »

Well guys after all the bad weather we had on Saturday with the rain, snow, sleet & wind it wasn't an idea opening day to hunt turkeys. We had a pretty day on Sunday which warmed up in the high 50's that melted the ice in the mountains. Last night it got down in the 30's & was calm & I headed out to a hot spot on the National Forest in the Craig Country mountains. Didn't hear anything at daylight so I decided to sit & listening & I heard turkeys at about 10:45am. Turkey's fed through the woods & every now & then they yelped back at me. It looked about 10-15 in this flock. Shot a bearded hen that weighed about 12 pounds & an 8 inch beard. This is the first bearded hen I ever killed.

The new Remington 1187 that I had bought earlier this year and posted on here I was going to give it a new life in the woods, it made it's first kill today. I like to thank Jim Ward of Warbird turkey calls for making me a slate call over glass which was one of the calls I used in this hunt.

Hope everyone has a great season.

Brian

Are you going out anymore, or will you save your remaining tags for the spring?
