Honor Flight

Post by Hognutz »

My Dad is flying to Washington D.C. on Saturday, as part of the "Honor Flight" for WWll Veterans. He is really stoked. I hope that the weather permits it to happen. Starting to look a little iffy.. :old_glory:

He is 85 and not in the best of health.. It is probably now or never..Sad to say..

May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Hats off to your dad. He would have been in his teens during WWII. My old man was 20 when he went in. Dad would be 89 if he was still alive.

My dad enlisted in the Navy right towards the end of the war. I don't know what kind of plane, but willl probably find out. The neat part about this is that my cousin Kathy is a Colonel in the Army and is serving at the Pentagon, an she is flying here to go with him as his sponsor. They push the chairs around and make sure all is well during the trip.. So he will have a colonel as his private sponsor..and tour guide..They leave at 5:30 A.M. and return at 9:00P.M. A long day, full of emotions..He is stoked...Mike

I see how it works now, did not understand at first.
They are honoring these vets with a free airliner ticket to visit the memorial in D.C.
The honor flights I was familiar with were like for fallen pilots, and they would do a low pass fly by, with a B-17, B-52, or whatever that particular pilot had flown, over his hometown or venue they had planned.

Either way, sounds way cool to me. I'll bet he will cherish this trip more than anything.

One of my good friends dad went on that honor flight about a year ago, it was a very emotional day for all. The vets got treated the way they should be.The pictures brought tears to everyone's eyes around here.

God bless our veterans.

There has been quite a few of the Honor Flights out of Montana, most vets have never seen the memorial for them and it makes a great trip for them.
