Deer Fat

Post by Johndoe »

A buddy of mine shot "Doe" today and when we opened her up all the fat was Yellow. There does not appear to be anything wrong with her but she does seem to have very small nubs like a very young buck. You can"t see them but you can feel them. She has doe parts. Just wonder if anyone has seen this and if you think anything is wrong. I cant say I have seen this yellow before.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

If I'm not mistaken, it has to do with their diet. I have seen the yellow fat before. I don't believe its an issue.

If you cut that deers stomach open you would probably find it full of acorns.

you're right let me rephrase. It's what the dumb animal eats that causes the fat to be yellow. :toothy7:

kilt a buck that had yellow colored fat...they would not process it for me and told me it was fevered. of course it had a wound the size of a 12" tine in its neck that had puss coming from it.

I have been told if the fat doesnt look like dove soap, pass on it.

Well, you should have eaten the back straps by now. How was it??

Its still haging in the cooler. My buddy will come by this week to skin it and cut it up. I bet we will grill it this weekend. The Heart also.
