I have a Cabelas 45 minutes from the house. It is a nice place to visit, but I do most of my buying from them online. The stores do not necessarily carry what the catalog does, and they are never out of stock..It is nice to look at the guns and such, but you will find that it gets old after a while..
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

My thoughts as well.. I have been to 6 or 7 of them.. Ours in Dundee is the biggest one they are building two more smaller ones in MI too, the two smaller ones I have been too are nothng special at all..Hognutz wrote:I have a Cabelas 45 minutes from the house. One thing I do not like about Cabelas so much and the same with BP and to a lesser extent in Gander is that they seem to be all moving to self branded items.. I normally do all my hunting shopping from Rogers, Macks PW..
Only reason I wish I had one close for is on big items such as goose decoys free ship to store is nice.

Now you get to pay sales tax on internet orders.

Exactly what I was thinking!GLS wrote:Now you get to pay sales tax on internet orders.
One of the reasons I don't buy from Bass Pro, that and poor customer service!

+1 and they are more expensive that most of the other outdoor stores. 5 years ago they were competitive, now they are +10% on almost everything except clearance items.GLS wrote:Now you get to pay sales tax on internet orders.

Thats one thing, being of the midget variety I can clean up in the bargain cave.. I would find out what day that truck is there and be there if I were close.toasty wrote:+1 and they are more expensive that most of the other outdoor stores. 5 years ago they were competitive, now they are +10% on almost everything except clearance items.GLS wrote:Now you get to pay sales tax on internet orders.

Thats awesome if its a larger store. The smaller ones have just about enough to make you look somewhere else. I was excited about the new one in Charleston till I heard it was a downsized version going near a strip mall..Just save my gas money to pay state taxes..

Re: Virginia to get its first Cabela’s
Good to hear. I live in WNC so can get to Bristol easily and won't have to pay sales tax online. I used to buy a ton from Cabelas. Their customer service is great, but as many have said, their prices are no longer competitive. I buy a lot now from Sportsman's Guide. Their optics pretty much suck, but they sell Chinese stuff as cheap as anybody...sorry, couldn't help it. The one thing that a retail store like Cabelas has going for it is the ability to try on clothes, especially boots. I hate sending back boots that don't quite fit.

Seems like I always have something in my email from Cabelas about a soon to expire special offer on shipping costs.
