Here's a question

for all you farmers. What is this & why is it planted?

It looks like a parsnip, but they usually have a pointed tuber much like a carrot. Parsnip is a starchy root tuber which usually is harvested after the frost/winter which converts the starch to sugars and makes it sweeter. But then, the top doesn't really look right, so I may just be rambling about a mystery root.

Parsnip or white carrot is my guess as well. Take a bite and let us know if you make it through the night.

That would be correct but you didn't answer why it is planted. Also, Is it edible?

It is edible. I can be planted as a food plot or just to improve (loosen) the soil.

This is the official answer in regards to why:

"The radishes are especially attractive to no-till farmers, who plant without
plowing or otherwise turning the soil to enrich it, retain moisture and reduce
erosion. ... They are edible and are used in some Asian dishes, but U.S. farmers
use them to soften the soil and don't harvest them."


I thought they would have a pretty strong bite but were more mild than I
expected. There is a slight after-bite though.
