RIP Grumpy

Post by Hobbes_mobile »

I think everyone has probably seen the speculation that Grumpy has passed away. While I've never had anymore than PM contact with Grumpy, I do live in the same state. Not knowing how to contact his family to ask or how to even approach that, I just got off the phone with the Hill County Clerk and Recorder's office. They confirmed that Mark A. Keeley of Gildford, MT (67 yrs old) passed away on October 9th. I suspect an obituary will pop up soon. I'll provide a link to it when I can.

Rest in peace Grumpy. You will be missed.

Here is the obituary:

https://www.havredailynews.com/story/20 ... 25800.html

It's really too bad that the only photo I've got to see of him is his obituary.

The obituary mentions his love for turkey hunting.

You never know what someone has experienced in life just by what you see in a forum, but if you do a quick Google search you'll see the publicized details of the hell that Grumpy probably experienced back in 07 at the loss of a grandson. All that's behind him now.

This truly sadens me. I knew about his grandsons ordeal and how he carried that weight around. Nobody should have to go through that. Grumpy was one of my favorites. His quick witt and humor always made me smile if not laugh out loud. RIP Grumpy, I hope you and your Grandson are together doing whatever y'all want to do. And prayers for the ones left behind!

This is sad, sad news. I had commiserated with him about the loss of his "little buddy" and his signature line would often relate to this loss. He never got over the circumstances of the loss or the loss itself. Gil

Grumpy PM’ed me on Sept 25. He told me that he had had a heart attack, unbeknownst to him.. He said that he had difficulty breathing so they went to the hospital where they found that he had,
indeed, had a heart attack. He told me that he lost 50% of his heart.. He was to go to Great Falls for more testing. That’s about the time the big snowfall hit.
He also told me to keep the news quiet as onLy three members of his family knew the news... And ME!! Thats how close I was to the MAN....
Soooo... That is why I could not chime in on all of the questions being asked. I obeyed his wishes...
I had no idea that he passed until I saw the obit. I tried calling Sharon but got no reply. I emailed and got no reply. (Understandably)
I called him on his birthday a while back. Sharon was out of town for a week or so. We talked for an hour or so. He was so thankful that I called. He told me that I had no clue how much it meant to him.. I am so glad I did. It was the last time that we spoke!
He was always on me to go out there and hunt with him. Oh how I wish I would have made the trip.
Mark is now with the Lord and his most beloved Grandson.
I loved that MAN like a brother.. I will miss him dearly.

To my Brothers at Gobbler Nation. Please forgive me for not relaying all that I knew, but I gave my word to a man that I loved.

Rest In Peace, Mark Keeley lll..
My deepest and most sincere condolences to the Family of this great Man...
Mike

Mike,
You did right by him! I recently lost a good friend to cancer. He requested I not visit when he got really sick. Very tough but I upheld his wishes.

RIP grumpy, obviously I didn't know him like you guys did, but sad news none the less.

That obituary picture makes him look as ornery and fun loving as what his posts conveyed.

Shocked and stunned by this turn of events. What a quick wit and way with words he had! Always entertaining and funny. A sad loss for all who knew him I would think. RIP Mr. Grumpy.

Like many others on here... I have laughed out loud (sometimes very late at night) from reading his comments on here. He has cracked me up so many times over the years I for one will also be missing his wit.

Mike its all good. But you should have at least told me lol

a while ago he was passionate about something and got upset on here and mentioned he wanted to be taken off the forum. I know the mods and I talked about it and I said lets wait and let it ride. He was good to get upset then mull it over and realize no one here hated him and I for one would've hated to see him leave.

RIP Grumpy
