Who'll Stop the Rain

Post by HunterGKS »

These pics were taken at 07:30 A.M. on 06/16/2019. The prediction is for up to 5” more by this coming Friday. The crops that were planted run the risk of drowning and/or literally boiling to death.

06/15 = 1.8”
6 days in June = 6.4”
55 days in 2019 = 26”

Gotta' call my MI farmer buddy this a.m., as I see he had over 1" rain this last week and 2 weeks ago he had 120 corn to plant and over 1500 acres of Soys and couldn't get in the fields to spray anything he did have planted and up :banghead:
Going to be a year of quality issues on wheat also
ever wonder where the white goes when the snow melts??

I think we still have somewhere around 30-35# that needs planted. Weatherman said we are 20 degrees colder than the average for this time period

Only 50 percent of Ohio’s corn crop and 32 percent of Ohio’s soybean crop have been planted as of June 10, 2019.

Heck, that's the normal temp for there this time of year, isn't it

Just chatted with my MI buddy and he's got about 300 acres to go yet(rented ground not tiled well at all) on the soys and some newly emerged soys to spray yet that were planted in the last 2 weeks.

He even sprayed fungicide on over 300 acres of some of his better looking wheat also :o

We've had 3.5 past few days it's not pouring it's sprinkles. I pray for our farmers with Milk down it's all they need. Driving around were probably 60 percent planted. Some of my best fields for geese aren't planted least of my concerns. Lots of low dips maybe only a acre or two but that's alot of money in seed for no silage.Alot of guys haven't got first cutting off. Our ground heat units are way down due to cold. Around here our roads are expressways for tractors right now pass one every 1/4 I haven't seen one in three days.

My bil owns a small dairy hasn't collected a pay check in 2 years,, one house income with 3 kids. My best friend owned a dairy they expanded too 1000 cows they had to sell out do too milk prices

Corns gonna be through the roof with all the flooding in Illinois Iowa and other producing states.

We are going to all mega farms. One thing baffles me is law of supply and demand. There all adding cows making the same money for twice the work and overhead.

So from being from a small town that's backbone is dairy, I don't get mad having to cancel a BBQ or go to the lake I cannot imagine what they are experiencing

Same here in NY, Farmers can't get in the fields now and the ones that did get crops in are most likely gonna loose them. Very frustrating and depressing I'd be willing to bet we have a high fawn mortality rate and low turkey hatch rate also.

Been great here in God's Country, temps in the low to high 70's just a sprinkle now and then, wheat crops look great. Anyone that grows corn and sow beans that can hang on to what is already in the bins until next year should be able to name their price, supply and demand will drive up the prices in a hurry.

Got over 3" so far today, more tonight thru Tuesday.
We handle it pretty well. Got 18" at my house the week of Hurricane Harvey and didn't flood.
Farmers in some parts have had it rough this spring.

:o Wife talked with her golfin' gal friend today, of a couple we get together ever so often in Michigan to visit and they visit here.
I had to laugh, like my farmer buddy said Sunday morning, if he knew farmin' this year was going to be like this, and the worst he's ever seen, he'd have rented all his ground out.
Wife's golfer gal friend, said they have all theirs rented out on a cash basis and it won't be planted :?

Buddies soybean 300 acres yet to be planted, is rented on shares because of the poorer drainage … so the land loard is in a panic mode :stir: :LMAO:

More water than we know what to do with in central MO. Missouri river levees have broke roads and fields under water. Last I heard something like 200 rds have been closed for weeks. Some lakes are like 33' above normal pool even.

Someone enlighten me obviously grains and hay will sky rocket. What about meat? It could go two ways either a massive sell off lowering prices or rise in feed prices shoot it through the roof

Wife's gal yesterday said they had a friend with little production and is going to sell his cattle! :banghead:

2 things. Selling now lowers prices. With the loss of cattle etc in Nebraska and other states out west, the meat market is probably gonna skyrocket.

Mother-in-law’s farm ground is shared cropped. Nice thing for her is she bought crop insurance 2 years ago. She only had half planted last year and so far none yet this year. She also keeps up the tile and ditch work. Paid 30k in new tile last year. Still to wet to plant

Getting dry in NC Mont. along the Canadian border too wheat looks good now but will need a drink in a while, good thing is the cooler temps of only in the 70's and now we have a chance of participation precipitation starting Thursday thru Sunday with temps in the 60's. Still snow in the mountains

Ouch .. see Mi Buddy has 1.2" of rain today and don't know if he got the last beans planted or not this week .. as it sure wasn't a drying week for soil with few tile :banghead:
He's headed to Florida for a week of fishing and then re-deal with what's left when it dries after he get's back ;)

USDA report says of 6/9 .. Mi had 63% of corn in and 43% of soys .. a sad state of affairs!!

Hot and not gettin' rain here now as usual
