Absolutely Zero Class
I know some people have had some rough experiences this year, but this one takes the cake. Nothing I’ve read even comes close. Long story short, I killed a giant today, but when I went to flip him over, joker had completely busted off one of his spurs, other was a dagger of course.
What a joke, Who does this? how low does a gobbler have to be? Man I’m still pissed. Totally ruined the hunt for me.
I don’t even wanna read the “at least you got one” comments. There’s no way to spin this. Ugh, still sick. Wonder if the state will give me another tag?

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
Got a few "blanks" displayed. Killed one this morning matter of fact. Big rope dragging the ground, but one spur was busted and the other never grew. They're all trophies in my book. Congrats on the bird!

I went to the Dr. a while ago and asked him, “Now that I’m 65, Is it unusual for one of my nuts to be bigger than the other two”?

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
I hunted a big piece of public ground earlier this year with a buddy. He got into a long battle with a bird and finally killed him around 2:00. Both of his spurs were broken off. Just looking at the shape and where they started to curve, he lost a fair amount of length but even the broken “stubbs” were an inch. It’s guess work obviously, but his looked like it would have been AT LEAST 1 1/4” and probably more. That evening I killed a 2 year old with inch spurs and a really good beard. I had a lot of fun claiming that I killed a better turkey and pretending to mean it.

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
Several years ago I called in and killed an "old warrior" who had a single 1 9/16" spur the other was broken off, was cut up all to hell, had only one eye, and only weighed 17 1/2 lbs, The old gobblers head was all scarred up and he looked like he had wrestled a bobcat. The guy I was hunting with said that it wasn't an official harvest since the old bird had committed suicide.
Re: Absolutely Zero Class
Shot a Tom with a 10 inch beard and full fan that identified as a hen. Both legs were slick as a snake,
Put you plans in the nail scarred hands.

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
I shot one in the U.P of Mi. that was the same, Red. He wasn’t a trans. He gobbled and acted like a tom till I kilt him! 8” or 9” beard and no spurs. Not even a spot where they were supposed to be!

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
Spur issue happens everywhere. My son shot a nice tom back in '16 in a WMA here in South Florida. Last year I got one in the same general area of that WMA that only had nubs where the spurs didn't develop. Osceola Gene pool runs shallow I guess sometimes in the swamp.

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
can't really understand being pissed off because of some defect that a turkey has.honestely what is the deal if a turkey has a 10" or a 10 1/4" beard or 1" or 1 1/8" spurs.did you not have fun putting your witts against the bird and you won.dont miss the blessing of such hunts and throw the tape measure away.JMHO

Re: Absolutely Zero Class
I’m pretty sure he’s being sarcastic. It’s a little annoying to kill a turkey with broken spurs like it is to kill a deer with broken antlers. But I don’t know anyone would turk a turkey down over it.willie wrote: ↑April 29th, 2019, 6:15 am can't really understand being pissed off because of some defect that a turkey has.honestely what is the deal if a turkey has a 10" or a 10 1/4" beard or 1" or 1 1/8" spurs.did you not have fun putting your witts against the bird and you won.dont miss the blessing of such hunts and throw the tape measure away.JMHO
