Re: Black & Gold
That's really cool. I'd have to do some type of mount with that one

Congrats on a beautiful bird!
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Awesome bird and congratulations!

Thanks.
I'm going to do a fan and wing just like the Osceola I have. Let people guess which is which. The other wing will go hunting. I used to carry a wing until a gobbler about turned inside out when he saw it lying beside me. Maybe the black one won't be noticed.

I've used different chokes and loads and had good luck all around. Only one it didn't like was the Stubby XL. I've posted plenty of info on it on this forum.

Really nice bird! Congrats!! According to Lovett Williams, the black phase birds are the rarest of the color phases. A real trophy!

Congrats! Great looking bird.
We killed one of those here in MT back in 2015.

Re: Black & Gold
Missed this in April. Interesting bird. Never seen one with completely black primaries. Is the shell brass or plastic? Gil

That contrast is something else. Was there anything else unusual about the bird?Hobbes_mobile wrote: ↑May 21st, 2019, 10:10 pm Congrats! Great looking bird.

Re: Black & Gold
Brass all the way for me these days! I didn't know color until I dashed up there. It tried to peak over the rise and ghost around. I couldn't see anything but head neck and fan. Dropped out of sight at the shot and didn't flop.
A fella down in FL once told me about an area in the Big Bend that had all black birds not much bigger than a chicken. He told it to be one swamp as the only place he would see them. No public land around of course.

He had a darker look to him. You can see how dark the stripe on his fan is.howl wrote: ↑May 29th, 2019, 6:25 amThat contrast is something else. Was there anything else unusual about the bird?Hobbes_mobile wrote: ↑May 21st, 2019, 10:10 pm Congrats! Great looking bird.
