Re: Taking Bets
Ouch. Did that once with my bow.
Manual locks on my truck, sat my bow down on the passenger side and loaded my atv, I had started my truck and was freezing so I jumped in and took off. Realized it the next day at noon, needless to say my bow was gone.

I'm going with gone. There's always a chance.
Re: Taking Bets
Good luck - many years ago a friend and I were doing a combination decoy and float duck hunting trip down a local river. We put in the jon boat in the pre-dawn, floated downstream for several miles, threw out a few decoys and reached for our gun cases. Oopsie - left them back on the bank at the launch site. Fired up the motor and rushed back upstream. Two Remington 870s still there untouched. Hope you have the same luck.

I'd call cops and fish and game. I know if I found it I would turn it over to them. But there's alot of idiots out there.

Re: Taking Bets
Oh my gosh!! Praying that it’s still there. There are a few good guys left. But... Longshot at best.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I asked the Sheriff if he ever had guns turned in.....he said well, stranger things have happened.;(
Ugh, just sick about it. Was beaming over it when Winchester got it sent back to me, really sharp looking gun.

Re: Taking Bets
That just plain sucks. Hopefully, whoever found it will have a conscience.

Re: Taking Bets
Is it insured? If not, possibly your homeowners would cover it..
I know it still sucks but would sure help for starting over.

Re: Taking Bets
Several springs ago I found an early model Real Tree camo Mossberg 835 laying in the tall grass at one of the trail head / parking areas of a 250,000 acres state forest. Almost tripped over it. I took the gun, oiled it up as it had been there a few days in the rain, and posted signs at the two local general stores with my phone number. Waited few weeks but no one ever called.
Couple of months went by, and I received a call from the state police from that county. The trooper asked me to describe the 835, which I did. He said someone called reporting a lost weapon in the same area of the forest however the trooper's description was for a rifle, not a shotgun. I asked him what I should do, and he suggested I turn it in to the state police barracks in my county, which I did. Several months later I called to inquire and learned the owner finally claimed it.
Have hope in humanity. And I hope this turns out well for you.

Re: Taking Bets
Sure am sorry to hear you leaving the shotgun. Hopefully you got that first bird with it. Pray an honest soul will post a notice on this forum or others.

Re: Taking Bets
Sorry for your loss.
I once left my rifle leaning against a pine tree in Georgia while I filled my canteen.
The drill sergeant was not happy, I had to low crawl around the entire camping area for about half a day. I NEVER leave my weapon out of reach.... EVER one of the most useful lessons I learned.
