The 2019 Traveling Turkey call

Post by MeadowCreekMounts »

We are passing 2 calls around the US this season to see how many kills we can rack up to raise money for a little girl diagnosed with brain cancer in October. If you are interested in pledging, donating, or are willing to hunt withe a traveling turkey call please read below. If you aren't on facebook you can private message me here for more info.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/344343192846163/

Jaelyn Hontz is a 10yr old little girl from Dahlonega Ga. She was diagnosed with Ependymoma Grade 2 brain cancer on October 29, 2018. She underwent her 1st brain surgery on Halloween. The Dr was able to remove 95% of the tumor.

Jaelyn is currently in Jacksonville Fl where she has been receiving radiation since January 28th. She has 4 more treatments that will take place next week.

After that she will then come home and have an MRI. If the tumor responded well to treatment she may not have to receive anymore chemo at this time.

All proceeds raised from these calls will go directly to Jaelyn for any medical expenses as well as travel. A direct Paypal link to Jaelyn's family will be provided on June 1 and only Jaelyn's family will see any of the money raised.

The idea is to use 2 turkey calls all across the US this year to see how many birds we can take down with the calls, to raise money for Jaelyn and her family. Money will be raised in 2 ways, one is a pledge style and one is an auction at the end of the season to sell the 2 calls that were used. The slate is a Redbeard Slate donated by Ian Maclellan, and the box call is a Paul Durham box call made by and donated by Paul Durham.

How pledges will work:
Everyone interested pledges a certain amount per kill that we rack up with the two calls this season. We will have 1 box call that travels around and one slate call. EX. if you pledge $2 per kill and we take 10 with the box and 12 with the slate, you will owe $44. Feel free to pledge as little or as much per kill as you want, every little bit helps.

How the auctions will work:
Since we have 2 calls we will run 2 separate auctions at the end of the season. These will be conducted on this site. Auctions will run for 1 week and the winner will be shipped the call after payment is received.

The traveling turkey calls will be shipped from hunter to hunter after killing a turkey. If someone kills multiple birds in the time they have the call we will count all of the kills. A list of volunteers willing to commit to hunting with the calls, being easy to contact, and being diligent about getting the calls shipped out to the next hunter will be assembled. Out of respect for the other hunters and keeping the spirit of collectively trying to get as many kills as possible with the calls, we ask that a 1 week maximum be set for anyone to use a call. A tentative plan will be formulated after interest is gauged but please understand that not every one will possibly be able to get to use the calls. Two separate lists will be made, one for the box call and one for the slate call.

The calls will be eligible to travel until June 1 when Maine's turkey season closes.

If you are interested in pledging, please comment on this post with your amount PER kill pledged. There are 2 separate posts for signing up to possibly use the calls below:

Sad, but I like to see all of what is going on

I'd just as soon donate as we do for St. Jude on a regular basis

I’ll be glad to keep posting here with updates throughout the season. So far we have had $43 per bird pledged, and a couple of others have donated a flat $450. I’m curious if you can still view the Facebook page without having a Facebook account.

The calls went on their last hunts this week, and the season ended with us racking up 39 kills between the two calls for the season.

There didn't seem to be much interest here on GN, is there something we could have done differently to change that?

We had pretty good success on Facebook, and even gave a pile of stuff away. We had a free drawing for a Southern Longbeards hat and slate call, Custom Striker by Rick Alessandrini, Sumtoy Choke, and a 3 Pack of mouth calls from Pecker Wrecker. We also raffled off a Woodhaven Aluminum call signed by Scott Ellis.

If you guys get interested please find the page on Facebook. We'll be doing it again next year.

I followed somewhat on Facebook

39 kills with travel calls is impressive

Hope that lil girl is doing well

Facebook has a lot of people and gets a lot more attention than a forum

It takes more work to post up on a website like GN etc than it does on facebook
Don't start none, won't be none!
