Florian RP 701 pruning shears work well. They'll cut something about the diameter of my thumb. They're small enough to go in a vest pocket and are light weight.

Second the Florian 701 ratchet shears. Been carrying them for years. They can cut some big stuff and are lightweight but very very well built.

Fiskars Ratchet Anvil Pruner (7685)... I remember cutting an inch thick hick'ry for a walking stick once. They're not high quality, but they're light and they work.
