Hookspur's 2nd Book

Post by hookspur »

I finally got my 2nd book from the publisher. I kept the cover photo the same, but changed the color to differentiate between Volumes 1 and 2. How do you like it?

I have been reading my copy and while not finished yet...it is all the ups and downs and no BS tales of a traveling turkey hunter. And a refreshing break from the almost non stop commercialism that seems to follow a lot of the "pros" around. Well done Doc!

Check is in the mail, Doc. Can't wait to see the second edition. The first is at the top of my list of favorites.

Anybody that hasn't read Doc's first book is missing out. Great writing,...entertaining,...as well as very informative for those of us that like to explore turkey hunting opportunities in other states.

Doc .. finished reading the 1st of your 2nd edition last week, with my 1 eye and am on the 2nd one now, with my "other" eye, just in case I missed anything in the 1st book

Great job of writing and portraying the hunts and I still havn't heard or seen any any of your stories written, that you have told me the times we were chasin' those Osceola's in Florida :stir:

Which ones you think I oughta include in Volume 3, Charlie? ;)

You might want to use the PM feature for some of those stories.....

Just finished up Volume 2. Great read,...well-written,...good, seamless flow,...and with much food for thought included. Kudos (again) Doc!
The boy can flat-out write a book, Ya'll! If you're into reading turkey hunting books at all, Doc's two books are must-haves.

I was personally intrigued by Doc's discussion on turkey scoring/records. I have always thought that Dave Harbour's idea on establishing a wild turkey record book was a good one,....but that the scoring system he came up with was flawed. It appears Doc has long held a similar opinion. Maybe one of these days we will have a "Doc Weddle's Wild Turkey Record Book"!

...Perhaps the whole concept of scoring turkeys would be a good one for discussion amongst us serious turkey hunters....

Thanks, Jim. I'm really glad you like the book. Sales haven't been as brisk as I'd anticipated, and will certainly have to pick up if I ever hope to break even on the endeavor, but people don't read books anymore; seems like they get all the info they care to digest in 120-character twitter feeds. Personally, I love the feel of an actual book in my hands, and I devour every one I can find that's written about the wild turkey. Hunting for titles missing from my collection is an ongoing quest which is almost as much fun as chasing gobblers. Almost.

The scoring system chapter has received quite a bit of attention, but I don't think anything will ever come of it. My alterations received some mention in one of Mike Joyner's books (The Hills of Truxton), but by now the current system is too well-ingrained into the fabric of the NWTF.

I've never bothered to try and score a tom because I also feel the scoring system is flawed
I sure can tell that your revised system would be a lot more in line in respect to the ages of toms and not weighted for the heavier cropland toms

N"WTF" has the government mentality and is run the same way .. we're here for you so trust us, we're right !! :LMAO: :LMAO: :stir:

As for the NWTF; great organization, but I hear there's a lot of negative that goes along with getting too big. Maybe that's why I'm on a diet??? :walk:
