Fly fishing trip to Southern Colorado

Post by RapscallionVermilion »

One antidote for turkey season withdrawal for me is fly fishing for trout. In early June we went to the upper Rio Grande and tributaries near Creede, Colorado. The severe drought meant that the water levels were much lower than usual for that time of year, but it also meant that the fishing was some of the best we've ever had. The big salmon flies were also starting to hatch and some nice sized trout were looking up.

My wife doesn't hunt and likely never will, but she did start fly fishing with me a few years ago. I had more fun watching everything come together for her than I did fishing myself.

We also checked out this old fluorite mine.

Nice! Looks like fun. Rainbows and browns?
Great pics.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Oh my Lort!

beautiful pictures! Its been a couple years since I have been out to Colorado. Would love to spend more time out there hunting elk and fishing would be fun too.

Glad to see your wife enjoying some reel time.

Nothing more relaxing than fly fishing with top notch equipment and your own hand tied flies, been doing it for a tad over 50 yrs. now.

This is good stuff. I tried it several years ago when we were in Wyoming for the week. I ended up buying 2 flyrods. ;)
