My first 28ga turkey...

Post by toasty »

Took this nice tom this morning with the 28ga loaded with 1 1/2oz of TSS. This is the 2nd bird we have taken this spring with this load. Love toting the 5.1lb gun and will never carry a heavy 12ga in the turkey woods again.

Also had another first ever, this bird flew down from where we was strutting a ridge and landed in the decoys. I prefer to hunt without decoys, however, today, all this bird needed was a visual and it worked very well. The beard is 8" and thin, however, some good solids spurs for a Utah bird at 1 1/8" long. Also a decent weight for a mountain bird at 17lbs.

You are in for a treat. I absolutely love this gun and use it exclusively for doves and for ducks as well when the weather is good. It does need a sling though, I think I will drill and tap it before fall turkey season.

Thanks Toasty. I shot birds this year with my Browning Auto 5’s (a dream of mine). I have a Sweet 16 and a Magnum 20. The Mag 20 quickly replaced all shotguns as my all time favorite. Here’s my hunt with that gun:

My hope is to have an exciting hunt next year with that 28ga. Got TSS loads getting made as soon as the 9 1/2 shot gets here!!

Dang, that was a nice bird in the video. I patterned this with #9s. I tried it with my factory full and it was a little too tight and then again with my mod which I thought was perfect. We have been shooting the mod this spring with good success. IMO, you don't need anything other than factory chokes.
