So a bit of back fill. I have been hunting birds since I was about 12ish. I have completed my first all public land slam when I was 22. I then got stationed over seas and havant had the chance to get back in the spring until I got stationed in idaho this past fall.
I finally got some one at work to tell me a general area to try for a bird.
It was opening weekend my wife and I had never been to this part of idaho and day before opening day we drove around looking for sign hoping for a gobble somewhere. Nothing but a few tracks in the snow. So we woke up to cloudy skies. Not a single gobble was heard for the first part of the morning. The wife and I climbed up this mountain trying to get on top of some ridges when we started seeing a good amount of turkey turds. Thinking to my self. Not sure when they come through here but they sure do use this area! Walking across the ridge top we heard a couple clicks and putts just down over the hill. We set up and called in a loan hen. But while talking to her we got a bird to gobble on the next ridge over. Looked at the map and there was a road that lead us that way. So we started off a half mile later and 500ft in elevation gain. We set up and called a bit. Never answered us. But about 10min of sitting there here comes never went into to strut and was with a hen. All I could see was his head and they seemed like they were about to leave. So Boom!!! Turned out to be a Jake with a 4 1/2" beard. But I couldn't have been more happy. My wife got to watch and video it all. I shot this bird at 5000ft in elevation!! I'm originally from indiana so these mountain birds are new to me!
Now it my wife's turn.
First Idaho bird!

May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Thanks guys. Hopefully the weather will start acting right and the birds will start breeding. That should bring the long beards out!
The closest thing to this that I have hunted was NW Nebraska.
