I love turkey hunting
Somedays the compulsion grinds ya down. You hunt more out of have to than a want to. Then you have those days, usually deep into a season, where everything just clicks. You’re straight up alive. Usually a bird isn’t even part of the equation.

Try having someone hand you $1700 and has 8 hrs to kill his Osceola, while your worn out from 22 days of grinding, beat, yet something has to happen.SwampDrummin wrote: ↑April 13th, 2018, 5:32 pm Somedays the compulsion grinds ya down. You hunt more out of have to than a want to.

Re: I love turkey hunting
I have went out "Listening" every morning for the last two weeks and I plan on hunting every day of our season (providing it's not pissing the rain down ) which is a month long. Usually by the third week I don't know what day it is and I don't care what day it is, I just know that getting up at 4:30 every morning and walking your azz off takes it's toll when you have done it for a month straight..........But I wouldn't have it any other way.

It is by far my favorite type of hunting!! For 45 spring days I eat, sleep (not a lot) and live to hunt turkeys!!

One of the things I like about these forums is seeing accounts of people who are ate up with it way worse than I am. I'm always telling the wife that is she thinks I'm bad, she should look at 'this'.

Hell yeah...nothing better! Went this morning and got 2 gobblers to fly across the lake. When they hit the ground gobbling, I promptly got up and backed out and went back to the truck. Got a guy coming next Friday and I want these birds to be there for him. I just hope nobody else gets on them cause they live on public land.

My iPhone says 7.8 miles was my longest walk this season. Anybody else keeping track of there’s?

Re: I love turkey hunting
I tracked my walking miles a couple of years ago and on days that I did not kill a turkey, I walked 6-7 miles. During that year, I hunted 11 out of 14 days without hearing a turkey sound. Then, the flood gates opened. Just gotta be persistent.

Open here tomorrow but with the never ending snow and now freezing rain we get non stop this winter and again today the only gobblil' I'll be doing tomorrow is breakfast. Sounds like South Dakota is in for a heck of a blizzard with 50 mph winds and 15 inches of snow, should make for plenty of dead cows there again like just a few years ago.

Storm is just leaving the S.E. corner of Mt. and heading right in to S.D. be careful in those areas if you go out.

My Favorite is spring Gobbler Season, I have hunted them since 1979 and killed my first in 81 and have been hooked since. Spring is coming very slowly to NY and I still have to wait until May 1st.
