Don't know what part of Bama you're hunting in where they aren't always tough.

Alabama where I hunt has been really hard this year. Bird population seems really down.

In south ALABAMA too. I normally kill my limit every year and I haven’t worked but two birds this year. It’s been rough.

Was this expected? Have you had poor hatches recently? Just curious if any of the other southern tier of states are experiencing this too....

They are still being stubborn, but I found 2 and killed both this weekend.

I hunt in west-central Alabama, had a decent early season but much tougher the last two weeks. Despite a good number of birds, improved habitat, reasonable hunting pressure, and no notable change in predators, we have noticed a definite decrease in gobbling over the last few years. Our birds are either very hot for a day/two or very quiet. This makes hunting even more difficult for us weekend hunters and can change the age structure with more older birds that tend to gobble less. Many opinions on potential causes but no easy solutions. I am hearing the same from the south west part of the state.

Thanks for the update.....we have all seen 'those' periods where it seems like there isn't a gobbler in the county. I had a year when I hunted an area I had hunted for years and knew there were birds but when out 9 different days and never heard a gobble within a mile....then on the 10th day the woods exploded and I saw 6 different strutters within gun range.

in my area they are getting shot and that is causing people to hear less gobbling. At the first part of the season we hear more because there were more to hear. The few stragglers that are left travel further in search of other turkeys and don’t come back to the same roost every day. The population is steadily declining and It is going to be a disaster.
