Turkey tote

Post by 202P&Y »

Do any of y'all use one? If so, what kind? One that captures the feet or feet and legs? I quit wearing a vest a few yrs ago and it can get interesting trying to tote a bird for a long distance. Thanks

I use the paracord kind with a single loop on each end. Works great. Makes carrying them long distances a whole lot easier. I also carry some bags to put over bloody heads before synching up the paracord loop.

So yall recommend the one that holds feet and head to allow bird to be slung over shoulder like a bag (I didn't wanna say purse)?

I took a padded rifle sling and tied paracord on each end to make a loop for the feet and head.
The padding helps soften the weight on your shoulder. I usually keep the tail in front as I'm walking so to keep the tail feathers protected from damage from briars/brush.

I don't need a tote, I married a tote years ago and it comes in handy for other things when the turkeys aren't responding.... :LMAO:

Don’t knock it till you tried it, but I always thought a turkey was designed pretty convenient for the ole shoulder tote. I’ll put one in the back of my vest for a long haul but I hate to mess up the feathers. What’s the. Big benefit to a tote? How do you keep the cord from biting into your shoulders?

I use one I made from a nylon rifle sling and a slip chain dog collar. I had one out of para cord but it got pretty nasty from all the blood. I put a sling swivel in the end of the nylon strap and then slide the chain link over the attachment on the sling swivel. It took one carry job to get the length exactly right but it works great. You can simply wash off and blood.

I totally agree with the paracord tote. I also agree with RapscallionVermilion as far as the bag over the bloody head. I use to have a blaze orange tote I bought somewhere that had a head bag, but who know where it is???

For years i've used a curved piece of deer antler w/ the crown, drilled w/ a countersunk hole in the middle and a leather loop. I usually polish the base of the crown into a convex dome and scrimshaw it and the other smaller end. I've made several for friends as presents. I used to put a cut line on the smaller end for every gobbler killed w/ a slash to denote 5 birds and would symbolically stain the cut w/ blood from the gobbler.

Here’s the one I use. It came from Otis Leather Co. in TX. It’s not something listed on his website, but he will work with you on whatever you might want. It actually may be on his site now. After I told him what I wanted he said it was a good idea and he may add it to the lineup. Nice fella...John Todd. Not real expensive either.

I looked up a video of how to use one. Not sure how I feel. On the one hand.....it's a giant turkey purse. On the other hand....it's a giant turkey purse. I cant be the only one that's this conflicted.
