an eight-inch wing-bone-and-cane yelper made in 1898 for $50,000.00.

I love my Mark Sharpe wingbone and cane yelper. But for anything close to $50,000.00 you can have both and I'll bring them to you in my Toyota Tundra. You can even keep the truck too, I'll fly back home.

Here is another picture of the Jordan/Renaud call. It was in a collection from Renaud family. I was fortunate to receive Renaud’s hunting journal from 1870’s with numerous hunts with Jordan, Renaud’s duck call which was likely made by him and trophies from his wins in field trials. He was quite the sportsman.

I loved the article and have read it in the past. I will never forget when the call hit ebay. I had read of the ties he had with Renaud whom was from New Orleans if I remember correctly and knew right away what it actually was. I had also read where he was murdered by a poacher near Hammond La. in Tangipahoa parish which where I grew up. A friend of mine Jimmy Stafford who is a retired turkey biologist for Louisiana wrote a book a few years back called Louisiana wild turkeys. In his book he mentioned that Jordan was killed on the property he was managing which is now known as Zemurry Gardens which is eight miles due south of where I grew up. There used to be a hunting club there but now its only hunted by family members. Danny, it would really be awesome for us to get permission to kill a turkey there with Jordans call.....

Like George and few others here, I've been around on these turkey forums for a long, long time. This is by far my favorite thread, I love the history presented in this article, just awesome stuff. I will post more info on Renaud and what I have learned since receiving the journal. Renaud meet Jordan at a train station after Renaud was hunting turkey. Renaud was playing a yelper and Jordan said to him would you mind if I tried the call. After Jordan used the yelper, Renaud said to Jordan “ you really know how to play that” and Jordan replied “ I should, I am the maker of the call. Real story. They became great hunting buddies. In the journal it describes a hunt which is mentioned in “The Wild Turkey and It’s Hunting” by Mcilhenny which is Jordan’s manuscript given to him by Renaud after Jordan was killed. The hunt describes killing two toms and some screwups by Renaud. On page 142 the picture titled “the chief of all his enemies Genus homo” is Renaud with the two toms and his 10 gauge Scott double gun. The journal I have is dedicated to his new Scott 10 gauge. Lots of stuff I can share but I’ll need to dig it out. There is an article from Louisiana Sportsman many years ago( I believe that’s the title) which has numerous old turkey calls. A number of them are labeled and given to the author from Jordan. One of the calls is an exact duplicate of Turpin’s original trumpet yelper. My belief is that just like the above Jordan yelper which Turpin used and documented he also borrowed from Jordan the trumpet and used as a pattern for his famous call. I know this can touch off some people and I don’t know this as a fact but I’ll post up some documents in the next day or two and let you decide.
