HOPE TO BAG A GOBBLER THIS SATURDAY!

Post by quavers16 »

I found a roost area this past Sunday with gobbler scratchings at the bases of trees and blowdowns. At least I have a good starting point. If they are right there- I am going to scatter them to the 4 winds really early- no later then 45 minutes before Sunrise so they don't all fly off in the same direction. I have used medium sized limbs to wack the trees in years past and got good scatters. I have read that some Fall hunters will bring out a rolled up newspaper to wack those trees- but I have never tried that one yet. Good luck to all turkey hunters here who will take to the Fall Turkey Hunting Woods This Year!

Good luck with the birds, I will be at it sometime in November and my plan is an ambush while they are on they way to the spilled grain at the corrals near the feed lot.

Some say any scratching against the base of a tree was most likely done by a gobbler. I personally haven't seen enough evidence to support that. I've seen both do it, and can't say one is more frequent than the other. But most gobblers I encounter tend to flop more than scratch.

Thanks Uncle Nicky! I just washed all my camo with Sport Wash to take any uv out of them . Next step tomorrow is to spray the camo down with clothing only permanone to take care of those nasty deer ticks.
