Passed

Post by guesswho »

Got a picture of a deer my Mom passed on last year on our place in Alabama. I was sitting with her and tried to talk her into shooting him. It was her first hunt of the year and we had already seen four other bucks and she decided to hold off. Later on she said she wished she had pulled the trigger. I Usually have out a mineral block and salt block at this spot during the summer. I failed to put them out this year but the deer are still hitting the lick pretty good. He's added a little mass this year. Hopefully she will get another look at him in a couple months. I doubt if she gives him a pass again.

This is usually about the time they quit hitting the minerals. Once the acorns start dropping they seem to leave the licks alone.

Exactly my thoughts. Honestly man if I can throw a product out I've used since I was kid, buck fever synthetic.

Stuff works, honestly best scent I've ever used. Drag rag money

About the best thing I've seen as far as an attractant in the South is Rice Bran. I always put it out in the front yard during the time my parents are up here. They like to sit on the couch and watch the deer. Front yard is a no fly zone so they're safe. This is just a couple from last year visiting the Rice Bran in the yard. I have seen as many as six bucks at once looking out the front window. Ignore the date, I'm not smart enough to figure out how to set it. The other one was taken with a regular camera out the window.

Rice bran, it's funny you mention south. Guiding in Kansas when we absolutely needed deer to come out during the day, rice bran.

Bought a few bags for home last year, thinking I am gonna steal everyone deer. **** it went in touched.

Could be like certain food plot stuff, where's it takes a couple years for them to hit it

Yep. A buddy had the same experience in Ohio. Put it out and then put out corn out 50 yards away. Had a camera on both. The corn was wiped out in one night with lots of pictures, the rice bran untouched for two or three weeks and he finally took the camera down. I don't know why they like it down here and not up North. I'm fixing to put some out tomorrow and put a camera on it. Will see in about a week what shows up. Hogs and raccoons also seem to really like it.

They're safe from me as long as they stay off the road :P . A 4000 lb. vehicle is to deer what tss is to turkeys.

North Missouri have seen the same thing with rice bran. Was set out Halloween then sat there clean through spring turkey season. The guy from Arkansas that sat it out said they eat it down there. I laughed and told him possums wouldn't even touch it.
