NWTF registering

Post by swampchicken »

How many of you guys register your birds with nwtf? I was looking through their records and thought there's some good bird scores but figured there would be more. I really have never met anyone that I know of that turned in a bird. I know some of the birds I have seen killed would be ranked up in the top numbers. I also was reading that it costs something like $15 to register a bird which is my guess why there is not a ton of big birds.

I registered one at 156 and some change. I tried to get them to list it as hunter Unknown. But they wouldn't do it without a name. I should have just gave a fake name. I think the reason some folks don't do it is because it's a bit of an inconvenience. Have to weigh on certified scales, have two witnesses sign off on it etc. the only reason I registered that one is because I knew he would be close to the state record. He wound up as #2 and is still at that spot 15 years later. I won't register another one unless it tops that one. And even if that happens it won't be in my name.

I am member of the cult I mean NWTF. But I agree with Guesswho.

You have to be prepared and have a plan to register a gobbler. Thats the last thing on a persons mind when hunting.
Of course my brother killed an absolute freak in Nebraska few years back. 27.7 lbs, 11.5 beard . Spurs where 1.25 each. We talked about registering, mounting but at the end of the day we just took pictures and drank beer and fried it up.

I think its fun and cool that there is a place like the NWTF to keep those records if the hunter wants to put in the effort.

I registered my slam, but I doubt if I'd do it again.

Yep too much of a pain!! My avatar bird was 143 and change, would be #7 in Alabama(not sure about now). I was a member when I killed him and it was just too dang inconvenient!! Any bird over a certain weight(maybe 22 or 23lbs) had to be weighed on certified scales, with pictures, not a picture but pictures of the process, and honestly I just wasn't in to it. I'd rather smile, take some pics, clean him and move onto the next.

I keep my own score(pics & specs. in my albums) but know quite a few that enjoy "being in the books"

My bad. I was looking at just a standard plan ole bird & didn't take into consideration multi-beards.

I ran the numbers for a 50 pound bird with 3" spurs & an 18" beard & it scored 146 which would be
1 helluva bird.

My apologies.

I'd pass on that bird since he's considerably smaller than one I've already killed

Now here's one listed that impresses me. Right off the N"WTF"'s site. I wonder who the two witnesses were on this one.

Check out this un.

Hunter's Name: JUSTIN LUCAS
Home State: GA
Species: Eastern (A-Typical)
Harvest Date: Mar 22, 2014
Harvest Location: CANDLER, GA, USA
Total Score: 203.9375 #1*
Longest Beard: 10.5000" #46*
Beard Total: 80.5625"
Number of Beards: 10
Longest Spur: 1.1875" #23*
Other Spur: 1.1875"
Weight: 19.0625 lbs. #239*

I have 1 Eastern & 1 Osceola registered that beat this 1 in weight, spurs, & beard. It's those other 9 beards that racked up the score.

Kind of like deer, those other 25 points rack up the score.

Guilty.

I quit deer hunting after killing a 150 class deer, I should do the same with turkeys.

I wouldn't worry about it unless I had a state record bird.
My grandson killed one last year that would be the #8 bird in the state had we registered it. I didn't do my diligence and measure it all up before butchering it.
When I added it all up and checked the book...well I hate the boy missed getting his name up there. But he and I know.
