Need advise on video camera for filming hunts

Not looking to spend a fortune but want to video my hunts. Looking at the tactacam with 5x zoom and also see some cheaper video cameras online. The video cameras will be harder to accomplish being on a tripod but the tactacam can mount to gun. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I have the Tactacam 4,0 and I think it does a great job, very clear video and the sound is purdy good.

I used the Tactacam this past season and was well pleased. On 5x zoom it takes great video. I used a gun mount under the barrel. Once I learned to hold the barrel still after the shot it did even better. Audio is pretty good as well, but it magnifies any sound you make on the recording. Didn't have very good luck with the GoPro. It has a very wide field of view.

I was leaning more towards the tactacam. Probably get the 3.0 since it has 5x zoom I don't really need the Wi-Fi for another $100.

I'm leaning this way also!!

My Xcel is like the Ulta Pro X Cam 10 and when on standby, eats the battery life up and on long hunts is useless, especially if you rely on the remote, so might as well go to a gun mount!!

I have a cannon hf g20 now. I was fortunate I picked up at 357 regular 800. It's an awesome unit.

Before filmed on a cannon vixia hand cam like you find at Walmart for 300. It got stolen but took great footage and if your filming for personal use, all you need, besides a good tripod and external mic

I think the video camera would be much better footage but turkey hunting it would be a lot harder to get the footage messing with the camera and gun. With the tactacam I think the footage would be decent but much easier because we all know where the gun will be pointed.

Ordered me a Tactacam 3.0, extra battery, and a head mount unit. That way I can use parts from my Xcel(32 micro SD card also) to mount to my stationary primo's decoy stakes when I field hunt and use the head mount when I turkey hunt, if I need to. I am getting a gun mount, but rather doubt if I'd utilize it that much??

How's the video? I haven't given much thought to the head mount.

I'll sure let you know when I get it and put it to a trial run!!
I do know, when I turn it on to record with the head mount, I sure darn better be still :bom:
I really think with my stationary stakes for mounting, I can slowly reach and turn it on with minimal movement as the head mount also.
I don't really keep my gun up very long anymore, let alone "still" enough for filming :LMAO:

If you want good video you gonna need a camera on a tripod with a remote for steady zoom and external mic.

The Tactacam 3.0 seems to be a pretty simple camera and it has a "black out" mode to turn the "on" lights "off" during filming!!

I really think my stationary set up will work great by just reachin' up and turning the camera on!!
If I need, the head mount swivels so it can be in front and left or right side of your head also!!
Hope you can see details of moving and working works ;)

Click on pics to see better details!!

Exactly, have not played with the others enough. But if I want footage that is quality, gophert is right. He really helped me.

Granted I rarely hunt alone and sal or I are normally on the camera. You'd be shocked what you can film for under 5-6 bucks
