Neil cost call on eBay

Post by coconut »

I see a Neil cost call on eBay. Said it's the one before the fat lady. 1700. Is it worth it?

It is worth whatever a motivated seller and buyer agree it is worth in a sale. A collector could easily pay $1700. Gil
PS: It will go for far more than I paid him to make this one in 1983--$75.00

Dayum! At that price, I must have given away at $15K worth of them. All I've got left is this old ca. 1978 scratch box. Think it's worth anything???

Signed and stamped by Neil Cost--worth something for sure to a collector, how much, I dunno. As for giving them away, I gave to friends a half dozen of the regular boxes. In my photo, the far one on the left, is a match to three others that I bought and gave to buddies in 1978. New, $25@. Gil

Do they sound that good or are they just hype?

They sound no better than my Don Chancey or Lamar Williams calls. The common trait is that they were made and "tuned" by callmakers who also hunted turkeys. The desirability of a Neil Cost call is based upon its quality and the fact that he had been dead for over 15 years. His style of box call is probably the most copied of all styles by contemporary makers. Gil
