Does anyone know what this is?

Post by gobblegobble89 »

Hey guys, I accidentally hit a hen tonight on the road and didn't want it to go to waste so I brought it home. I noticed a scabby looking structure on the crown of her head, which I have never seen before and I am just curious what it might be. It is hard like a scab. I can't find anything online that resembles this except possibly blackhead disease, but to me it doesn't look like it. Anyone else seen this before or know what it is? Or maybe it is in fact a scab from a prior injury? Thanks!

The breasts look fine and she had lots of fat on her and a full crop so whatever it was, she still had an appetite. Can turkey's get frost bite that's the only other thing I can think of, our winters are around -30 c regularily.

Never seen it before. Figured the breast wouldn't be good since you hit it with vehicle

I almost got completely stopped by the time I hit her I was probably only going 5-10 km, I somehow managed to only break a leg.

Could be fowl pox, could be blackhead, or it could be a wound from fighting. Hard to determine without getting analyzed. I would do yourself a favor to reduce the risk of anything and not eat her.....go kill her boyfriend.

I wouldn't eat it, you just don't know what is in the blood stream and gone into the meat. probably why she committed suicide too.

Well thanks for the input fellas, I think I'll throw away the breasts just to be on the safe side. A shame to see it go to waste.
