Hooker

Post by phutch30 »

Buddy an I went to a spot where 4 big toms slipped through my sons sights a week ago. They didn't this time. They Lit up the cold (was 27 degrees) valley on the roost for an hour, flew down, milled around fighting and then they all strutted on in. 20 yr shot with no flopping. Wish there was more to the story but it was a classic roosted bird scenario.

Just under 10" beard and 1 1/8th spurs.. which in my experience is a big MT Merriam.

That's a great MT tom. Congrats to you and your buddy. Is that the last of your 399 tags?

Good luck now that you're the trigger man. I think the season will just get better.

If my kids could hunt more, they would have killed the birds I've killed. I had a number of good years with my oldest doing a lot of killing.

I'll try to fill another tag, but will spend the week of the 8th with my dad trying to get his first Merriam's in some riverbottom country. He cant do a lot of walking, so it will be a slower hunt than i normally do. I'll kill one if/after he gets one. We've also got two 399 (wife and son) tags still that will be afternoons mostly.
