Good Morning

Post by Toddmann »

Went to help a good friend this morning. More than 20 years ago I got him started and addicted to turkey hunting by calling in his 1st bird and today I was able to call him in another one with one of the calls I built. In fact, this is the 1st gobbling bird I have had the opportunity to call to with one of my own custom built calls I built since starting to build them back in February. #21 call didn't disappoint. Heard him on the roost about 7am after a brief shower of rain. Closed the distance and got set up on him around 7:15. Heard him fly and he got quiet. Did a few soft clucks and purrs with no answer. A few minutes later I cluck a little more agressive and in the middle of my 1st yelp he cut me off. I told my buddy get ready cause this bird could be on the move. A few seconds later I hear, "I see him coming." Bird is moving quickly through the pines semi-strut style. At 18 steps he makes a right turn in more ways than one. At 18 steps he goes into full strutt and a few seconds later (7:35) I smell the sweet aroma of burnt shotgun powder. You would have thought it was the 1st bird we have ever called in and killed (well it was with a BLACK DDOT call) :D.
