Good start in AL

Post by poorcountrypreacher »

The AL season has been in a week and a half now and it's been a good season so far for me. The season started with 2 days with temps in the 20s and that really slowed down the gobbling. I've heard only one bird that gobbled really good, and I didn't get him. I have killed 3 others, but the first 2 didn't gobble in the roost at all, but gobbled twice on the ground. The last one gobbled 3 times on the roost, but he was a long way off our land. He eventually gobbled once on the ground after he came in to check out my conversation with a couple of hens.

So all 3 turkeys were killed by essentially blind calling, though I did know there was a gobbler within hearing on the last one. I had another morning when I was hunting an 80 acre tract that I heard 4 or 5 different gobblers, but all of them were far off our land. I'd rather be hearing 100 gobbles every morning, but it's always a blessing to just get to hunt turkeys. Good hunting to all!

My grandson and his dog examine the first one:

The little Yildiz loaded with tss #9 made a 51 yd shot on this one. Longest shot I've tried with it, but he was drt:

I watched this one strut for an hour before he finally came in:
