The High Cost Of Out Of State Hunting Licenses.

Post by quavers16 »

I live in New York and am only 20 miles away from New Jersey- so I hunt there as well. I only hunt in NJ for Spring and Fall Turkey hunting. That out of state license costs me $135.50. And the turkey permits are $21 each. Just hope neither goes higher in future years. Perhaps there are States that charge even more for a non-resident?

SC will cost you $175 for a 10-day license to turkey hunt and another $76 if you plan to hunt a WMA.

Wow--S.C. is more expensive! The one good thing about NJ though is there is no limit to number of turkey permits that you can buy. I usually buy 3 each Spring.

NJ sounds pretty reasonable, to me. Southern states seem to be pretty expensive. I did buy me and my son a GA lifetime license before we moved out of GA.

last year I bought tn, nc, and sc annual license. total of about $700. I do, however, deer hunt in tn and nc. kinda evens them out. I hunted a total of 3 days in sc for about $250 and it was worth every penny.

That is an extremely cheap license, especially if it is year around.

Agreed. I pay around 350+ for MS. It is a year around license, but I only turkey hunt.

I hunted Alabama, North Carolina, and Kentucky last year. As well as Ohio. N.C. seems to be a bargain comparatively. N.Y. was inexpensive to hunt a few years ago when I hunted up there. Hopefully I'll hunt Michigan this year.

Now get out there and make us proud and write some parking tickets.

I would be ok with $125 per bird. nc is $250 for 2 birds (non-res). sc is $225 for 3 (non-res)those figures exclude wma permits.

IL is 125 per tag, but you have to buy a nonresident hunting license at about $60 For lic and stamp.

Montana will cost you 110, I think, plus a general hunting lic and a conservation lic.

I agree, you have to pay to play. I spend more on lodging and fuel than tags.

I have a lifetime license in Ga. As a non-resident for me to hunt across the river in SC costs about $300 for big game, WMA and annual license. I have to be careful because the annual license, wma, and big game all have different expiration dates because of times of purchase, and I can't renew all at once as they have to expire individually first. SC was a real pia when it had the "one size fits all" annual expiration date which created logjams at licensing outlets. Now the different licenses last a year from date of purchase. I like the reciprocal licensing statutes which charge non-residents the same amount that the non-resident's state charges its residents. You screw us; we screw you. Why one can't hunt SC WMA's on Sundays is beyond me. Gil

I can remember when I first started hunting Missouri. The tags for 2 birds were like 40.00. And then in a matter of 10 years or so it went to 190.00. Price of the tags went up and the number of turkeys went down. Go figure...

I also remember paying 100.00 for 4 birds in Texas, I think that was back in like 2002, which was a great price.

"You screw us we screw you"

Maybe I'm looking at Georgia's regs wrong, but they aren't exactly giving turkey hunts away. A 3 day hunt may not be too bad but it's rare that I'd only plan 3 days out of state on public land, so the cost jumps significantly for adding a fourth day. Im still of the opinion that you have to pay to play, so I'd pay their tag prices same as anywhere else that I could work out a hunt.

Hobbes,
There is some fine public hunting in SC. If you can keep a secret, I'd help you out...as in point you in the right direction.
