Flying Fall Turkeys

How many members here would shoot a flying Fall turkey if they flushed one up?

I've taken a few shots at flying turkeys, have yet to knock one out of the air (even though they look as big as a B52 in the sky). Unless I'm right on top of one, I let them go.

Many years ago, a buddy talked me into going skeet shooting one summer a couple times - I thought my 'skills' improved.

That Fall, called 3 Jakes up out of a family flock, they saw me move and flushed, mounted gun, swung, lead, bang.

Left side breast was destroyed. So much for my improved skills.

Haven't tried that since.

You are right--skeet shooting does help. I give a big lead to hit the head and neck.

Never done it, but probably would if the situation presented itself.

I have killed them flying in spring and fall but only take those shots if I like how they are presented.

I've done it in my earlier years, but not lately. Most that are on the wing are usually going away, so that doesn't work so well.
Flying toward you, or across,... No problem. Just don't like doing it, risking having shot in the breast too much.

Never killed one flying. Never had the chance. Guess I would if the chance was right though.

It is rare- but sometimes on a Fall turkey opener when the woods are full of hunters- it is possible that someone else flushes a drove a few hundred yards away from you. A big fat jake comes flying over your position. I don't think too many hunters here would let that oppurtunity go. They would get a good lead and open fire. This happens often when pheasant hunting.

all day, every day, if my dog works hard for me i`ll try my best to reward him w/ a kill. I shoot deer & rabbits on the run, why not turkeys? Mike

I've shot them out the window of a moving truck while they were flying. Remember the Osceola is the hardest Turkey to get.
