Shooter Shindig 2016
Shooter Shindig 2016
A great time was had by all. The weather was perfect and the birds were somewhat responsive.
FullChoke was able to connect with a bird while hunting with Shooter and Mrs Lily.
Team Greenleaf (slicky and gophert) had the most action but leave empty handed.
JD was snake bitten by other hunters.
I'm sure they will all chip in with their experiences. Thanks again to Shooter and Mrs Lily for their hospitality.

Shooter Shindig 2016
The weekend was definitely action packed, from start to finish, and even though the birds were uncooperative I had a blast #teamgreenleaf
Regardless of the hunting outcome, it's always great hanging out with good friends, and eating great food. As usual, Tommy and Lily were the best hosts you could ask for!
Speaking of food we had the Inaugural BBQ sauce off, and everyone was proclaimed a winner!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself this weekend with these crazy rascals. When they would get going talking about slitting wads and +/- grains of ??? powder, I would have to just sit back and watch. Great camaraderie, great food, great host/hostess, great places to hunt, great hunts. I had a fantastic time with a wonderful bunch of guys who all have such a real passion for hunting turkeys.

Re: Shooter Shindig 2016
Yep, we had a blast! Ain't no doubt about it. It was over too quickly. That was the quickest 3 days I can remember.
Plenty of birds to go around this time. Still can't believe we only got one. Everyone was on gobbling birds every morn.
BTW Ronnie, if you're reading this. Your Red Tailed hawk stuck his nose into the mix several times with a couple of our call-ins, and screwed us out of several would be dead Tom's. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it.
Poor ole Slicky and Gophert were on so many Tom's Friday and sat morn, Slicky bout wore out his safety!!! We re-named him Clicky after that ordeal.
JD and Slicky hunted together sunday morn on some birds they had roosted. They said one came out of the tree and sounded like someone dropped a bowling ball through the limbs. I wish I had been there for that.
It was great to have finally got to meet Fullchoke. He is a class act through and through.
He bout pushed my blood pressure to the limit sat morn though. We had that strutting bird in front of us for what seemed forever.
At one point I almost uncontrollably yelled out,... SHOOT THAT SUCKER!!! I guess he was just enjoying the moment!
He was out there on the border range for quite a while, but finally called the hen on into 5 yds in Norm's face, and the Tom came on in.
I waited, and waited, and waited!!! Still waiting. Finally the hen didn't like something and putted. BOOM!!! Thank God!! I don't know if I could have taken much more of that. It was a great moment to say the least. Handshakes and high fives.
Slicky's BBQ was better than ever, and had 4 sauces to choose from. Slicky had his, Stumpy sent his brew, JD brought some of his grillin sauce, and a vinegar blend. JD did his famous country boil with a bunch of goodies mixed in.
Fullchoke did his Peach cobbler in a dutch oven out back. I think we are all at least 5 lbs heavier!
Can't hardly wait to the next one!!

There were a half dozen others that were gonna try and make it, but things came up and couldn't.

Sounds like a good time was had by all as usual. Hate I missed it this year.
Glad you still have good bird numbers. Hunting in Ky was tough this year. I got my two, but they were hard to come by. Numbers were way down compared to the recent past, and gobbling after flydown was almost non-existent.
