The shortest season ever
The shortest season ever
It went as quick as it came...but i'm still in the woods playing with turkeys , just not with a gun.
I had been scouting for weeks as usual, had this group of 5 gobblers pegged...That Friday I met up with this bunch of turkey killers for dinner and drinks, GobblerD,Scott Hooks,TS,and Devastator....I should of had dinner and less drinks....
opening morning came and I set up, no gobbling...about 10:00 I see 4 redheads coming towards me...so I shot the first one that I had a shot on because they were all good birds...dead bird. I walk over to it and it's a jake
I hadn't even seen jakes there and I scouted a lot.....the guys at camp keep telling me to take the first ethical shot I can and not to let them get close, as hard as it is I'm learning to do that...in this case I should of waited but I was happy to be walking out with a bird.
Day 2
I was #4 to sign in, it was my mom's favorite number and I saw a shooting star (it's a girl thing lol) ... Right off the bat I had one coming in ... I was between him and his hens but then he shut up and a couple of hours passed and I kept hearing something skirting circles around me so I called every few minutes and finally he gobbled ... About 20 yds away
I shot
I missed
I went to chamber another shell and it goes flying out of gun so I'm scrambling trying to get it from off of the ground and into my gun , he got the second shot ... Dropped him about 60 yds
Love that long beard load for longer distances
The next morning I took my sister into my honey hole .... it was an amazing hunt too other than the miss, she went back and forth with the hen, pissing her off, he gobbled all the way in and when he got close she gave me the call and I worked him the last lil bit and there he was sitting in front 30 yds away in full strut...went back the next day and nothing...going back Friday,Sat. and Sunday to see if we can get it done ...then I went and met Adrain J Hare and his buddies Jim(huntingnet buddy ) and Mike on Monday after our hunt and I've been spending time at camp with the guys which is the best ...good times with good folks, killing birds, still in the woods, can't ask for much more.

Re: The shortest season ever
Great job Ma. Guess now you're gonna have to go and buy a GA license, just so you don't have to cut the season too short.
Re: The shortest season ever
