I HATE MISSING!!!!!!!!
Well guys I got in where they live this morning and set up on a gobbler. After one move and a few soft clucks, turkeys started filling up the strut zone. I was in a dense creek bottom and overlooking the largest opening around. I could see 3 stutters about 70 yards out and watched them strut and gobble for around an hour. Well as they started to file out off to my right, I had the run of the creek between me and them. I waited for the last strutter to hit the opening and clucked. He stretched his neck, fibers on his wattles and squeeze. He should have flopped - I've patterned and I know what pattern I throw at 50 yards. What I didn't account for is my usual gun throws the pattern over the sights - the one I had this morning throws the pattern centered on the sights at 40. The turkey left there like he wasn't touched and I looked for an hour to try to find any sign and I didn't even find a feather.
I hope I clean missed. I am just sick about it!

It was my Win 1300 Short Turkey with IC 660 shooting 1.75 ounces of straight 8's. I am averaging 250 to 260 with it at 40.

He may have been 55 if I had a laser, but no more. I shot under him.

My son rushed a shot yesterday morning at about that range. He was shooting straight 7.5 tss 2.5 oz 12 ga. 2nd shot turkey was getting up and he shot him down flying over 60 yds. Dead when we got to him. This is my 4th year shooting tss, it still amazing stuff.

I could have killed him in a tree after he got up but the 3 strutter all flew to the same trees and I wasn't sure which one I shot.watchemflop wrote:My son rushed a shot yesterday morning at about that range. I had a guy with me and he confirmed no hesitation at the shot, no fall, no feathers, nada...

Hopefully he is alive and well. It happens from time to time no matter how prepared we think we are. Good luck on round two!

Re: I HATE MISSING!!!!!!!!
Missing will make you sick to your stomach. But as long as its a clean miss then it makes it easier to swallow. Keep your head up and make a jelly head on the next shot.
Re: I HATE MISSING!!!!!!!!
The misses seem to make the hits that much better. Keep at em!
