Using shooting stick?
Using shooting stick?
Was curious if anyone here likes to use some kind of shooting stick when hunting turkeys?
Re: Using shooting stick?
I use the rest that hs strut puts out. It clamps to the barrel of your shotgun and comes with a gun loop to put the guns butt into. I hunted once last spring without one and I was lost.

I tried one and didn't care for it. Last time I saw mine it had a tomato plant tied to it.

I will be using one this year to keep steady until the right moment, seems it would be much easier.

I am young enough I don't need one.. But I have a couple to use with youth etc when I take them hunting
Re: Using shooting stick?
You saying only old guys use them? (-:
I was thinking of getting one because last year when i was in new york i had to wait about 40 minutes for a gobbler to come in who could see me the entire way and i was sitting in a spot that limited my movement a lot....gun gets heavy after a while.

maybe..
I just find that moving around setting up on turkeys, a shooting stick is one less thing I want to carry around

Yes, I use a monopod and love it! Yes, I'm not in my 20s anymore. Yes, I cant bend my knees like I used to.
It works great as a walking stick, because us hillbillies tend to have one leg shorter than the other. Its nice for crossing streams, creeks or swamps. The monopod has helped me more than hindered me. Plus when your buddies are giving you crap you have something to wrap them with.

I use a Polecat mono-pod as a walking stick, and I've used it as a gun rest before.

I made a good one from an expandable window washer sponge thingy for washing semi truck windshield. All aluminum and doesn't weigh anything hardly at all, sprayed it camo grass and built a barrel rest on it.
