Saying goodbye, and letting go is harder than I thought

Post by Shooter »

Lily has been on me for two years to move on to another.
I have had this Chamois shirt for Lord knows how many years. Long as I can remember,...LOL. I've had to take rattlecan paint to it several times, cause washing it kept fading the colors.
Ain't no tellin how many Gobblers and Deer have met their doom while using this shirt. Pretty much my good luck charm.
The collar has been frayed a year or so, but I still wore it with pride. This morn however, while trying to get my arms in, it has gotten so thin and worn, I punched my thumb through it like paper. After that, I figured it was finally time to move on.
Got 3 Greenheads this morn, so at least it went out with a bang!

Thank God I have 2 or three backups waiting. Years ago when I realized how much I loved this shirt, I started searching for another.
They stopped making this shirt many years ago. After about 2 years of searching on Ebay, I was able to get my hands on several.
One is brand spanking new, and the others were used, but in great condition.

Oh well, nothing lasts forever, but Dang, it's been hard to let go!!! Guess I'll give it a proper burial tomorrow! :angel4:

Got an old plaid shirt laying on my couch now that me dog uses for his bed. I bought it off the safety truck at GM at least 35 years ago. Looks like yours served you well.
Put you plans in the nail scarred hands.

I had a t-shirt like that and it killed me to get rid of it. I now have an old state police sweatshirt that they may bury me in. They just don't make me like that anymore!

So sorry for your loss....it's in a better place now.
Mine is an old Mossy Oak Treestand button up chamois. It's in slightly better condition than yours...not by much though. I'm too scared to wash mine. It'll be a sad day when she goes.

I've got a ratty, rip-stop poplin shirt that I bought from LLBean about 30 years ago. I held my daughter for the first time 25 years ago while wearing it. It'll never leave the house. I wore it a little this summer, but only on special occasions. ;) Gil

I hate to read this. I know your pain all to well. When one of my favorites finally loses the battle I give it an ashes to ashes ceremony, then spread the ashes in the woods I hunt.

Replaced my turkey vest last year. I had been wearing it for 20ish years. The pad has been soaked in Turkey blood enough times while packing them over my shoulder through the years that it would drip dark brown liquid if I got it wet.

I struggled with replacing it. My wife wore it some last year. Leaving it at home was similar to leaving a bird dog at home that's waiting at the door to go hunt.

Maybe you would prefer my T-shirt that says in Big pink letters " If it's got Tits or Tires, you're gonna have Problems" :toothy7:
