Maps In The Field

Post by Turkey Talker »

Not too many people keep it old school anymore When it comes to maps and finding your way through the woods/ swamps.
Personally I like to use laminated maps of the areas that i am hunting in and use slip rings to keep the
images together. I dont use a GPS system or a fancy cell phone with all the bells and whistles.

What do you like to use?

And if you use maps, other than google earth, where do you get your maps and print them off at?

Usually before season and during season I stare at Goggle Earth and Bing Maps for way longer than I care to admit and have a good mental picture of the areas I'm hunting. I carry a GPS and an Iphone but rarely use them.

I lean on my Garmin Oregon GPS with downloaded topo's heavily. But I also always carry the maps I've obtained as well, usually I've jotted down some coords of some areas I'd like to have a look at. Usually those maps are from the local ranger district or printed off google images.

I got a file at home with arial views of most places I have hunted in the past. Now I just use my phone if I need too.

I showed gobbler the topo map in Nebraska of the canyon we were in, while we were in it. It was pretty cool.
