Ticked off in kentucky!

Post by madmike1977 »

Things are not going to well in Ky so far. Have hunted 2 tracts of public land so far and have not seen anything but jakes. had 5 jakes at 10 yards today with a single hen. Heard 1 bird gobble today at noon when i came back to the truck to eat and that was the first bird i`ve heard since 8 a.m. Saturday. We are also in the tick belt! I pulled more than 20 off me a day for 3 days and my buddy has had just as many. Worst year in Kentucky so far but on a new tract and hoping things change. Good luck to everyone else hunting Ky public land and to those out there with unpressured private land birds,, BE THANKFUL!!!!!!!!

Get Permethrin to spray your clothes you hunt in, and you wont get ticks. Ticks are horrible this year everywhere, and a new nasty disease has popped up from ticks. Serious problem.

yeah i have permethrin ,did not seem to help at the last spot. guess there were just to many to stop. seem to be out of them now. finally got on some gobbling birds this morning but it did not last long. once their feet hit the ground it was all over but atleast now i know where some were roosted. I just hope they come back to the same spot.

one nice thing about being bald. ticks crawl up the back of your neck, right on across your head, and down your face. they still get me on the shoulders but none on my mr clean

I can't ever recall getting a tick on me while hunting. Maybe cause I don't have fields to walk thru?

Ticks suck, I've sprayed my clothes with Permethrin so I hope it will keep them away.

made another step towards success today! found 3 birds on roost and worked them for a while before they slipped off away from me. just glad to hear some birds gobble. Kentucky has been good to me the first 2 trips giving me my #2 and # 3 birds overall but, this trip is kicking my butt. guess its time for me to have a bad one. still trying, did sneak up on a giant old gob this evening on a gas line but the hen between he and i spotted me and alarmed him before i could get to the edge of the brush. 65 yds, sooo close. GOOD NEWS! NO TICKS FOR 2 DAYS!!

Seems like things are tough all over this spring. Anyone have any idea why?? Screwy weather maybe?

The public land I've been hunting has produced nothing but this is my first year hunting public and a lot of the time I spent walking and looking but I have yet to hear or see anythang. Haven't got a tick on me yet. (Knock on wood).
