TSS loading Pictorial

Post by Jamey » January 22nd, 2014, 10:45 am

First let me say that this Pictorial will show the basic process only and NOT any specifics of any particular load or recipe. Hopefully it will be helpful to those of you who are interested in getting started loading your own turkey shells and are wondering what all is involved in loading. As you will see it is actually quite simple.

Let's start with tools. Pictured here are all the tools I needed to purchase. These include an electronic scale, a powder trickler, measuring scoops, and a roll crimp bit. In addition to these I use an electric drill and a shell vise. A hand drill will work but I use a drill press which I already had in my shop. There are commercial shell vises available but I chose to make my own from some scrap stuff I had for zero cost. I also used a piece of 4x4 to make a shell holder for my loading bench.

The first step is to measure and load powder into primed hulls. I purchase already primed new hulls and don't use already fired hulls. Each powder load needs to be weighed and loaded exactly and once the amount is close I use the powder trickler to feed in a couple of grains at a time until it is exact.

How do you get the primer in the shell? Or do you buy shells with unfired primers?

New Primed hulls Joe.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that
