How many fps do you want your loads

Post by Fl strutter » January 28th, 2018, 2:54 pm

Just wondering everyone's opinions on fps for tss. I've read it doesn't have to be super fast like lead loads. My load states 1090 fps but I'm also using a 20 inch barrel with Indian creek choke so it's really a 22 inch. Hope I'm not below 1000.

I've heard with tss It doesn't have to be super fast to stop the flop.

Fast as I can stand the equal and opposite reaction on the backside. For me, that’s roughly plus or minus 1100 FPS in a 1-5/8 oz load out of a compact gun.

If you can believe what you read, that will work fine at normal distances.

I can speed it up some but was wondering if 1090 was fine with 8.5s. Not looking to shoot 150 yards.

Hal's Big 20 Stubby XL has worked great for years at 1074 FPS, so your 1090 FPS will work fine.

Shoot a can of cat food at 60 yards. Mystery solved.

1,283 FPS... and not one FPS more.

I shoot (pun intended) for 1100 fps, but 1000 will kill just as dead.

I can load it up to 1182 fps. Best patterns were at 1090.

My .410 load is probably strolling along above 900 but below 1000. It seems to work fine. The ones that I've hit haven't lived to complain about being hit by a slow moving object. Gil

With discussions I've seen in relation to penetration of TSS 9's, it seems like 1000 FPS is a good direction to go if nothing other than reducing recoil. Seems like I saw something last week about 1.25" of gel penetration at 60-70 yards with 1000 FPS of MV. If that holds true, 1000 sounds great.

I hunt with 1175+ and prefer at least 1150+. That said, I've killed a pile with 1100ish.
