Choke Tube Recommendation for .410 TSS

Post by duurmeehr » January 27th, 2018, 5:42 pm

I'm not a regular poster but was looking for some advice.

I bought a Stevens 555 .410 to hunt turkey with this year with TSS.

I have used the 20 ga last year with Hal's TSS load.

The tubes that came with the gun are pretty ratty so I am going to get a couple aftermarket tubes.

Does anyone have any constriction advice or a starting point for Hal's 13/16 oz #9 load? I was thinking about a long range in one barrel and a close range in the other. I am hesitant to assume the tightest choke they sell is the best long range choke because my experience with HW13 and TSS is that is not always the case. I'm trying to get by without buying several tubes to get to where I want to be.

I was going to e-mail Hal but after searching around on here and not finding any answers thought maybe a thread on it would help someone else?

I think there's a thread on here about ol' hawglips using a comp n choke for that. I got that from my memory, not the search function.

The other one posted about comes from SumToy. I have one, but I couldn't tell you the constriction. I'd try the factory choke first.

I know what you mean about not wanting to shoot a five dollar shell out of a five cent choke, though.

Does that one have a selective trigger?

It has a barrel selector on the safety but only one trigger.

I have the same gun and shoot a simalure load and I sent my barrel to William at SumToy and he made me a pair of tubes if he sees this maybe he will chime in.
They shoot great.

Most the time 385 to 388 has worked well with Hals load.

Sweet! .385 is very popular for the 40 yard shot. Sometimes its to constricted though so a .388 like sumtou suggested would be the trick. I would definitely try the standard full that came with it first, the modified should be ideal for 30 and in.
