410 single shot 2 3/4 chamber. TSS

Post by arrowhead83 » February 24th, 2017, 11:06 am

Looking to get my 8 year old boy in front of a long beard this year. With that said I have a savage stevens 410 with a 2 3/4 chamber that fits him well and he shots good with. Wanting to load tss. So my question is with the smaller chamber what kind of results can I expect?

More specifically is it worth spending the $$$ on This gun. Not wanting to handicap him in any way. I know the 410 can be a capable 40 yard gun, but I'm assuming that is with the 3 inch chamber. I'm a rookie with the tss, I know every gun performs differently. But guys chime in and let me know what ya think. Before I have the gun drilled and tapped and find out its not going to be up to the task.

I would say you would be way ahead to go with a 3in 410. A new 410 single shot would be easy to load TSS for. I'm not even aware of a wad for 2 1/2" 410 that would work with TSS.

Thanks turkinator. That's what I was afraid of. No shortage of experience on here, so I figured I would ask the experts before finding out the hard way.

Hal will have to chime in to know for sure. There is a 5/8 .410 load, but even it uses a 3" hull.

Can do a 1/2 oz load in a 2.5 inch .410.

I don't think there's a wad that will work for TSS in a 2.5" 410

Probably have to cut down the 3" wad.
