Camoflauge or Stay Black
Camoflauge or Stay Black
What is the opinion on a black turkey gun versus a Camoflauge turkey gun? Is it worth the cost to have a black 870 Hydrodipped? I have a 20 gauge 870 that I put an adjustable stock on recently.
How hard is it to hydrodip the adjustable stock and how well do they turn out?

I have a black 870 20 gauge and no problems with turkey hunting with it. Its killed 3 so far. Someone else will have to answer on dipping.

Dipping your own gun is difficult to do and get great results, but is possible if you are willing to do a lot of reading. I researched hydro-dipping over a year before I did my gun. It turned out perfect and is as good as what you can buy.

Camouflage is just cosmetic. Makes for prettier after the kill pictures.

Pretty easy to go to the woods and look around and see just how many longer black lines being shadows and branches and natural back that will blend right in with most any gun even wood and blued as long as the sun isn't reflecting back off them.

I agree with everyone else, camo is more for the hunter.
That being said ...... I just sent my 870 off to be dipped, haha

If you mean "blued" rather than "Parkerized"my preference is dipped. A dipped gun's surface is virtually rust proof. I have a 25 year old 835 factory coated that has zero corrosion attributable to the coating rather than any maintenance on my part.

Get the Remington SureShot stock kit if camo is a must...I bought a like New 870 that's no glare parkerized and found the Kit on Ebay for $55...I have less than $200 in the Gun and it's just for my Daughter but since I shoot left handed, I love the feel!!!...My Turkey Gun is a Mossy Oak Obsession Mossberg 930 Auto because like the others said...It looks good in the Kill Photos lol plus when I match from head to toe..I feel like 1 of the over-Paid TV guys
Had a Time finding a Primos Gobbler vest In Obsession but Finally did at a little store in Va in the sticks lol

Mossberg does have a very Durable Camo...My buddy has a high dollar Beretta and it's worn to the metal in a few places and it's 4 years Old....How you treat your stuff means a lot also thoughGLS wrote:If you mean "blued" rather than "Parkerized"my preference is dipped. Now I don't know if its been discussed recently but one of the bake-on finishes is the only way to go in my opinion. If they know what they are doing they can cover almost everything and it prevents moisture for getting on those areas. They are more expensive but better that dipping.
Re: Camoflauge or Stay Black
I had an SBE that I bought in 1998 that had a tough factory coat. Rattle-canned jobs might not be as durable as baked finishes but they are inexpensive, easily repaired and tough enough for my purposes.
If I ever get to hunt with Hal I'll surprise him with a free paint job on his CZ 28 gauge. . We all know how much he envies camo finishes.

Dude! I'll make sure I bring something besides the CZ!

Well John continues to spend my money. The only thing is on the bake on finishes I do not see a good pattern and you can't bake plastics.

I will show you. Just pay attention to what I say.
