Here's a bird I killed on Saturday on a last minute hunt.

I heard a flock flying down in the distance early, and chased them till 9. They knew where they wanted to be and I couldn't turn them back till then. It was a blast being in constant vocal communication with them during the chase. The lead birds were steady moving, but some would hold back calling to me until I got relatively close, then they'd fly to catch up with the group right before I got close. That happened 4 times until they got to where they were heading, and I was able to call them in. It was a great all-around turkey hunt. Got to test my woodsmanship and got to call a lot. The flock was very vocal and I got to use every hen call I know how to make. Even got to get wet crossing a big creek that was higher than my knee boots.



She was about 35-40 yds. As is often the case with this load, both eyes were put out and bulging. I skinned her head and neck to see what it looked like under there, and it was one big blood clot.

That little CZ, barks and bites pretty good. Nice hunt. Gil

The gun is a Tristar. Has Briley turkey chokes installed. Uses mobil chokes.

The mount is one of these that I modified by cutting it off just long enough for the FF to fit on and attached to the rib. It attaches by two small plates that slip under the rib and the picatinny screws down to the plates on either side pinching it tight onto the rib. Jamey, did you fabricate the plates and drill and tap them? What you did sounds like the system for mounting Williams fire sights on a vent rib. Gil

No they come with the rail mount in the link above. The plates are thin and pass completely under the rib and have a tapped hole sticking out on either side. The fire sight mounting is different in that it clamps in from either side but does not pass through.

This setup is very solid...especially for a sight as light as the FF.

Turkeybuster busted a big one Monday. 21 lbs., 10-10.5" beard, thick; 1 3/8" spurs. Once he emails rather than MMS's the rest of the photos, I'll add them.

My little buddy in GA killed another one with the .410 loaded with the good stuff this morning. His dad said, "...shot him at 45 yards with his .410! Killed it graveyard dead!!!"

He's shooting an old bolt action .410, and I've not been able to get a pattern report. Just dead turkeys. I'm beginning to wonder if they patterned it at all... It's a gun that his grandfather gave him. Very old gun. He didn't know what it was, and I didn't look at it closely. I'll try to find out the gun details this weekend.

It's an old Mossberg. And though it was given to him by his grandfather, it first belonged to his great-great grandfather. So, it's pretty old.

Thanks, Hal. Here's young man's first two turkeys shot with his Stoeger single-shot .410 at 15 yards last week in middle GA. He was using the TSS 9 13/16 oz. load. nice shooting when they are that close and one has a bead on the gun, a full choke. He's 8 years old.

I am just thrilled to see someone else who Loves 28 ga. guns. I have about an even dozen if I include the ones for sporting clays. Most recent is the Weatherby SA-08 and it is sweet. The Franchi is the lightest by far and the Baikal SXS is the roughest (The Beast).
