The goal was to figure out what length barrel/choke is optimal, and I'm exceptionally interested in understanding the variance in performance between a brass and plastic hull out of that 22" barrel. If my 25"' gun shoots plastic hull loads and delivers ~120 in a 10" @ 40 yards while your buddies 22" gun shoots ~140 with a plastic hull, I can assure you I'd be asking William to cut the barrel down before mailing it home. He's welcome to shoot from the batch of shells I sent William if he's local to the shop. -Keith
You might want to ask William but I think he done some experimenting with cutting the barrel off on a Yildiz single shot 410, if I remember correctly the shorter he made it the better it patterned but I'm not sure where the "Optimum" length ended up being.

Thanks, Turkey.

I speak with William often, but unfortunately the .410s just need more testing. While he's had some come in and cut them shorter, we don't have the data to confidently make a decision. I was waiting on the results from the gun pictured in this thread while it was in William's shop, but unfortunately I think it was tested during rain and less ideal conditions.

As to barrel length, when I had a gun made for a decades long hunting buddy, I told William 24". When he called to tell me how it shot, and it shot well, I said leave well enough alone. It's hard to go back once it's cut. Just keep in mind that a 24" break-action gun is no longer than a Jamomatic or Pump with a 21" barrel. Gil

My first .410 bird. The whole flock was right behind him but he was leading the charge. He came around the bend in the road drumming. He got nervous at that point, probably because he could see the rest of the road and the hen he heard wasn’t there. But he was already at 15 yards, and the .410 was already trained.

High Standard Flite King K4111. Not an expensive gun by any means, but not super common. My wife’s father gave it to me for safe keeping when my son was born. I fixed it up a little, and it’s a sweet shooter. Thought I might as well put it to good use until my son gets a little older.

Hal, glad you like the gun. I'm a big fan of the M37's. The design has been around for a 100 years in continuous production except limited in production during WWII when Ithaca shifted gears for the war effort. Its was first introduced as the Remington M17 with the majority of design work done by John Moses Browning. What choke you using? Gil

That’s nice Hal. I’ve been contemplating one with a 24” barrel.

Picked up a Benelli Ultralight 28 gauge today. Should be fun with TSS - I’ll likely try it out in Kentucky!! Thanks Hal for getting me started with TSS reloading!

Not everyone wants or needs a big bore (or #4 or #5 lead shot) to kill limbhangers. Buddy's bird today with Yildiz .410 and #10 TSS.

Good friend of mine has a daughter who is young and small, but she's obsessed with turkeys. I've got a stock for my .410 that I cut down for kids. She used it last year and killed her first turkey. Borrowed it again today, and she's 2 for 2 with it.
